Just thought I'd share a few zoomed in images from my Pink Paislee Christmas mini and give you some pointers on techniques in case you make one of your own!
The tree: I wrapped twine and ribbons around the popcicle stick (with a strip of tacky tape in place on the backside to keep it all secure). I trimmed the ribbon after in graduated widths to resemble a tree. The star on top is from Heidi Swapp's chipboard and inked with Broken China Distress Ink. The little brown button is from a BoBunny button pack.I secured the whole thing to my cover with more tacky tape and a foam dot under the star. The large acrylic star coming out from under the tree is from a Maya Road coaster album. I inked the backside with alcohol ink and attached it to the cover with Glossy Accents glue before I attached the tree.
The dots: every page has three little dots that I used a regular hole punch and paper scraps to create. This flap has them scattered as ornaments on the stamped tree, but every other page has them in a straight row. I just thought it added a touch of color and something to draw the eyes around the 2-page spreads! You can also see here how I used Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a foam applicator to ink the edges of every single page (but not too many of the papers I adhered). I did the inking at the beginning before slapping anything down on the album. It took about 20 minutes and it's so worth the time. But don't use the ink pad directly! It will produce too harsh an effect! Be sure to use a foam applicator or some Cut-N-Dry Foam to apply the Distress Ink and you will be happier with the results. :)
The straight ruffle: I added a ruffled edge to some of my flaps. Just take a piece of straight edge paper and fold the ruffles into the paper. Apply wet glue (I use Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive) along the edge (backside) and attach the ruffle. Take your time and hold it in place until the glue dries.
Embellishing: I know it's shocking, but I didn't use very many QuicKutz on this one! I did use an embossing folder to add character to my solid cardstock like this page. I also used two border dies a lot: scalloped and dots. I used the border dies to make accent strips and ruffles. I alternated between stamps and QK alphabets for my page titles. This title is made with Storybook 4x8 alphabet.
The scalloped ruffle: This was one of my favorite little treatments! I used the dots border die to cut my paper, then cut the whole border die cut in half lengthwise. Then you just bend the paper at each dot and glue to the back of the flap! One die cut will treat 2 pages! (Did you notice my 3 punched dots too?!)
Hope the tips help! They'll be fun to use on regular scrapbook pages, too!
